Trying my hardest not to get annoyed! Still no answer - I was told to call back at 9am. I think my grey hair count has doubled!

Oh she's lovely. Well done you in offering a deaf, rescue dog the chance of a home. Good luck, I hope you get her.

As the the owner of a deaf dog I can tell you, hand signals are great, Dougal is a very quick learner. And it makes them more likely to come back to you because they want to make sure you are still there. Dougal gets himself into a right state if he 'loses' me on our walks.

I think you are making the right decision, having a deaf dog is no different, the only difference is you use hand signals more, I still talk to Dougal the same as I would a normal dog, but use hand signals more. Which can be quite amusing when it comes to being in a house with a hearing dog

She's lovely, best of luck.

Do deaf dogs bark? If not, I wouldn't mind one of those.

Good choice, choosing to adopt her, you wont regret it! I have one deaf dog, and am getting another one in a couple of weeks. I prefer deaf dogs and will always have them. if you go onto you tube and search "Scout's demo on deaf dogs" you'll see a couple of video's I put up of my dog doing demo's on deaf dogs. Scout knows 47 signs, she was 4 when I adopted her and I haven't quite had her 2 years yet. She's an amazing dog. Good luck with your new addition!!!

The deafness is what makes her special

Hand signals work great for close up work. I actually use hand signals mostly with Roxy - at least for sit, stay and down, and she's not deaf. Just because it works so well. I guess the recall would be the hardest to train, but with a vibrating collar it should be doable.

Dougal only barks when he wants in or wants to play. He doesn't bark as a guard thing, ie people passing the garden, I don't think he knows he's supposed to...
