Tennis balls as toys

No idea whether this has been mentioned before but...

One our Dobes is addicted to tennis balls and loves them as toys. Unfortunately we noticed his teeth had become quite blunted and it was only about 6 moths ago that our vet mentioned that they are very abrasive.

Apparently you can get a 'safe' version for dogs.

Just thought I would mention it as it was news to us.

Thanks for the info...........but I don't give tennis balls. But the other day one was found in the garden (think it belonged to next door) and I noticed that Bruce was happily pulling off the yellow material and eating it so another reason for 'no tennis balls'

Uh-oh, Jack loves his tennis balls, have to keep one eye on his teeth, and the other out for those safe tennis balls

I have a book by John Bower and David Young the dog owner's veterinary handbook it's quite old and In it is a story of a german shepard rushed in with a tennis ball lodged in his throat, and I've never gave one to the dog's since.

Also bear in mind that if dogs chew them to pieces they can choke on the bits of rubber (same as any toy really) there is an elderly lady in the park who tells my friend who has a Cocker Spaniel the tale of the Cocker Spaniel she lost this way every single time she sees her, which is at least once a week! (Give me a few years and that'll me )

I too have heard/known dogs who have had teeth blunted by regular tennis balls.

The Air Kong ones are OK.
