Demodectic Mange

Just had a phonecall from the vets, and this is what Teagan has

It's been going on for a while, the vets saying it was ringworm etc.

I'm off to the vets this evening to pick up something I have to wash her in once a week.
We're still waiting for more test results back (she had hair pulls and skin scrapes done). But hopefully it's nothing else.

How do animals catch this?

Does anyone know if it's contagious? Kingsley hasn't caught it, but how about other dogs? We do mix with other animals nearly every day.

I'm sad

Aww im soo sorry Hevvur!
Hope teagan makes a speedy recovery

Scrump had mange when he was younger, he had to have a bath every day, we think he caught this from the fox's in the woods.

Managed to get a pic of the bald patches on Teagan's head.
There is more on her face, neck, chest, legs and back.

When I took Teagan to the vets on Wednesday, he thought ringworm, but got another vet to look at it.
He said it looks like ringworm at first, but there is no scabs, which makes is suspicious.
Thats the reason we did the tests! Poor girl!

Hi Hevvur
heres a good link if you want to read up- I sympathise with you-
Was this as the result of a skin scrape that it was diagnosed? The mites can often burrow very deeply and its often the only way it is finally diagnosed. Did lots of reading up on this when Gus was licking his feet all the time

http://vetmedicine.about.com/gi/dyna...tic_mange.html

hope this is useful
Lesley

(edited to say- did you plan to breed her in the future as it is recommended not to )
