After having a days shooting yesterday and out beating today, I know exactly why my springer is docked. The speed she entered cover was phenomenal, and her tail did not stop wagging once. A lot of people commented on how happy she looked. She is 3/4 docked and I'm sure that had she a full tail (which I have experience of btw), she would have damaged it.

Leading on from Helen's post re 3/4 docked, are there different standards re length of docking of tail? I only ask because Willow's is longer than Daisy's was, probably only by 1-1.5inches, but it is very noticeable.

I've certainly noticed that in the showring, the puppies that are new out, have rather longer docks nowadays. I did wonder whether breeders had decided to somehow phase in the longer tail look.

Me too. Much better as god intended. If they are meant to have no tails they would be born that way!

I must say that I would have preferred to have been left with the choice of whether to dock or not. After all the anti dockers always had that.

Now we are all forced to do the same thing, for no good reason, in my opinion.

PS don't all go on at me about the cruelty argument, I don't accept it.
