GETTING THE BEST FROM THE CANINE ATHLETE – NEW SEMINAR IN NOVEMBER
The Kennel Club is continuing its popular series of Canine Sports Science Seminars, now in their sixth year, with a full day seminar this autumn focusing on ‘Physical and Emotional Stress in the Working Dog’. The seminar will be held on Sunday 4 November at the Kennel Club Building, Stoneleigh Park, Warwickshire.
Led by professionals from the world of canine health, treatment, training and nutrition, Canine Sports Science Seminars aim to help handlers, instructors and trainers to get the best performance from their dogs, with an emphasis on avoiding injuries and taking a holistic approach to the treatment of canine athletes. The seminars are geared towards all of the working dog activities, from Agility to Working Trials, Obedience to Heelwork to Music, Field Trials to Flyball.
This year’s seminar features sessions on Pain and Arthritis in the Working Dog – David Prydie; Myotherapy for Physical/ Emotional Stress – Julia Robertson; Working Sled Dogs – Raising and Training “Hard Driving” Siberian Huskies– Simon Luxmoore; Recognising and Understanding Emotional Stress – Kim Hunt; and Are “Performance Dog Stress” and “Queuing” Related? – Stephanie Fleig, Dr Jaime Martin and Anya Westland. The presentations will be followed by an Open Forum / Q&A session.
The cost of attending the Canine Sports Science Seminar is £80 including VAT per person. This fee includes all refreshments, a buffet lunch, a delegate’s pack and presentation handouts. For those attending both this and the Sports Coaching for Agility Handlers seminar the previous day, a reduced fee of £140 is available. The student cost is £60 including VAT - students must be studying a relevant subject and proof will be required with the ticket application. The cost for Kennel Club members or for KCAI members is £72 including VAT or 10% discount from both seminars. Attendance certificates (suitable for KCAI accreditation) will be given to all attendees.
