Any tips for a dog fooling around/running off??

For an exasperated owner......!!!

This dog is generally very good and has a good recall under normal circumstances, however when doing off lead exercises with any added distraction or pressure they act up, fool around and run off.

The excercises can be off lead heel work, agility, or on the move recalls, the dog just loses focus, gets distracted and then just runs away and refuses to come back (sometimes even for a favourite toy/treat) They sniff about or prance around in front of all the other dogs and then come back when they are ready?

We are currently doing more "long-line" work and trying to build more motivation for different toys etc but is still unreliable off lead. the other issue to trying to cope with any "self rewarding" or "chaining" aspects of this?

Any tips greatly appreciated!

Have a look here, especially the Susan Garrett links. Not sure what you mean about "pressure"? If a dog is distracted by something more interesting than a) the handler and b) what it is doing, then I guess the answer is simple.......................
