Thought so! Saw a woman in the village with one and it nearly dragged her off her feet! First time dog owner aswell, reckon that dog will be rehomed by the end of the year.
Quite like the longhaired Weimeraners too!

Yes, it is a genetic throwback and they are not recognized in the show-ring. I think they look kind of nice too, but it certainly must be a rarity as I've never seen one either!

same here, I've never seen one. Though about 4 years ago I did hear of 2 pups from Cuidado kennels with long hair, apparently Kate hid them away rather soon after. But the strange thing is when they were about 10 months they lost all their long hair and became smooth It was a pity as they were almost bang on the standard too (apparently) and neither of the owners wanted to show/work/ or breed.

Wow, never heard of that (obviously kept it quiet!! ) - I had no idea that the fur would drop out and go to being smooth! I presumed that the long-hair was genetic and remained long throughout the animals life.

That is so interesting!

They are nice, long haired rotties! i also love LH weims, beautiful!
The longhaired gene does pop up every now and then, like kate said it all depends on the genes

I did think it was something to do with genes.
Was a gorgeous dog!
Wish I had my camera when I saw it!

Theres a lady on another forum, who lives round the corner from me who has a red rottie! (I noticed GL mentioned it!)
