Claws on semi-feral dogs?

We`ve just found a broken claw that has come from Raz. It`s from a front foot - there seems to be no injury or blood. I`m pretty sure it`s broken past the quick as he isn`t tender on it.
His claws are over-long, but not growing round into his foot or stopping him walking. He doesn`t do walks but the garden is paved so he does wear the ends down a bit.
Cutting his claws would be a major task and stress him greatly. Any ideas? Should I leave it till there`s problem? (That`s what I`m leaning towards now)

Leave it if he is weight bearing on it and isn't in any obvious pain.

This happened to one of my dogs recently. The nail split down the middle, was a bit tender for a week or so and then dropped off. A lovely new one is now regrowing!

Will he let you near his feet at all? I washed Bo's out in a bit of very diluted Hibiscrub when she first split it to try avoid any infections. This probably wasn't necessary but it made me feel a bit better.

Try to train him gradualy to accept having his feet handled, ideall with clicker training. You will then be able to do them slowly maybe one a day.

There are videos on youtube about getting dogs to file their own nails on sand paper tiles that you hold at an angle... I'm not sure if he would be able or willing, and not sure if it is ideal with a poorly claw but could be helpful in the future...
not the best video but a quick link

Bless him. He was brave enough to go and get his claws clipped after all that though.
RIP lovely boy.
