Have decided to Adopt!

After quite a few nights of going over what breeders, i came across a rescue place, and spent about half an hour crying over how these dogs are treated, they are all ex breeding dogs, and i honestly want to kill all the people that hurt these dogs!!

Anyway, spoke it over with the Boyf, and we have decide to Adopt, as im a First time owner and dog with spend, well, all of its time with me we are still going to get a pup, i didnt realise how many of them are out there, ive just joined lots of forums and put up my details! already been contacted a couple of times, but i cant do anything until we move, heres what i wrote, let me know what you think!:

Hi, My partner & I are looking for a GSD Male pup, aged up to 12 months. We prefer the Non standard colours whites/blacks/sables/blue long haired boys!

I am not experienced with dogs (although ive done years of research!) so i could not accept a dog with behavioral problems (not fair on the dog) my partner has had dogs all of his life, but the dog would spend 90% of its time with me and i would be the one training Etc!
I am at home All day so pup will get lots of attention & we hope to do agility training amongst other training, and we have great parks for exercise here! We do not have any kids, but we do have a cat!

We have researched which type of dog would suit us and GSD comes top with Collies, Northern Inuit's, Golden retrievers and Labs coming all coming a close second!!............ we will also look at cross breeds to!

We are looking to get the pup from march 07 onwards as we are moving from a apartment (no dogs allowed) to house (dogs allowed!) so i just wanted to let people know we are here and if you want to contact me its great!! but we cant accept anything until then.

I live in the south of Essex, and my email is:

Many thanks i look forward to hearing from anyone!

Sharon

Hi Knottybabe forgive me if I am speaking out of place but I have seen so many people adopt dogs and older puppies then find themselves unable to cope because the reality of dog ownership doesn't fit their dream, and the poor rescue dog finds itself rejected yet again
Hi, My partner & I are looking for a GSD Male pup, aged up to 12 months. We prefer the Non standard colours whites/blacks/sables/blue long haired boys!
When taking on a rescue colours and coat type don't come into it, you take what needs helping at the time. Are you prepared for a dog with problems, one that may bark all night, be fearful of just about everything because it hasn't been correctly socialised, rips the place to pieces because the previous owner left it alone too long and it chewed from boredom and this became a habit, relieves itself everywhere because the previous owner failed to take the time to house train it. If the answer is yes that is fine

Not all rescue dogs have problems, but if you are the sort of person who couldn't cope with any of the above ( i'm not saying you are) you are not doing a dog any favours by taking it on, and may be better with a puppy that hasn't formed bad habits due to the failings of humans

Resue dogs are infinitely rewarding but you need to have lots of time and patience otherwise it is better to buy a puppy that hasn't already developed problems due to human failure.

I hope my post doesn't upset anyone, I rescued a dog and it was a great experience but not for the feint hearted.

Well Done knottybabe :smt041 :smt041

You see many dogs in rescues fitting the discription your looking for, the majority without problems and some with. A good rescue will help you choose one that fits your lifestyle. Believe me it's so rewarding knowing you have saved a life.

Is it Many Tears Rescue you been looking at?

Hiya Minihaha, i only put that description on one of the sites because it asked me to!! i was just showing that i dont care what colour it is, breed standard or not, im not bothered!!
I know what you mean, but the pups we have been looking at have been pups put straight into foster care was a 'accident' litter so they got in contact with the rescue place right away!
i have been honest with everyone, i couldnt have a dog with behavourial as i wouldnt be able to cope, so they know what i can cope with or not!

hiya anneuk,....yeh it caught my eye that the one that kinda pulled me over to getting a rescue, i have seen lots of others but i think thats the worst so far, i wish i just had lots of money & land and id take them all in myself!!!!

Hi Knottybabe if you are lucky enough to find a rescue puppy that is fine.
aged up to 12 months
..is an older puppy that could have problems so it is best to be aware of this from the start if you say you can't cope with problems many of which may not manifest themselves in a rescue centre and don't really become apparent until a new dog settles in and gets over the initial shock of a move.

Good luck whatever you decide..

Knottybabe, I think it is great that you would prefer to take on a rescue pup, and dogsey has a wealth of information regarding training techniques etc. Since you have no experience of dog ownershiip, have you considered going along to your local dog training classes (before ownership) and seeing if you could get some ideas first hand? It would be a sort of introduction to dog training, even though you didn't actually have the dog and I am sure that the training school would be more than pleased to guide and help you pre and post adoption.
