You need to "insert " a "symbol"

Click in the box and then click on insert (along the top) then select symbol from the drop down another window will open with loads of characters and you should find a tick somewhere in there and just click on it.

If you need more than 1 you can just copy and paste from the word document for others rather than insert symbol then the tick

Or maybe just the letter x in the box unless it has to be a tick?

Place the cursor at the point where you wish to insert a tick box.
Click 'Insert' button on the Standard Tools Bar
Select 'Symbol' in the down menu
Select '(normal text)' in the Font down arrow box and 'General Punctuation' in the Subset down arrow box.
Select square/rectangle symbol in the available symbols
Click 'Insert' button and a tick will appear on the actual document

There is no feature for a tick box but what you can do though is create a text box and place a tick in that.

To get the tick it is as simple as changing font the numbers 3 & 4 provide ticks just change the font to ZDingbats (right at the bottom of the fonts)

Hope this helps

I was filling in a form on an earlier version of Word and had the same problem so right-clicked on the box, which brought up a menu saying Box - checked or unchecked - and clicked checked and a tick appeared in the original box.
It might work for you.

You got to insert- symbols - more symbols- select-wingdings and then a tick is avaiable to select. Why is that so hard! this is microsoft word 2007.
