Thalice's Diary

Thalice is now an 11 year old Great Granny and all she wants from life apart from lolling round on the settee, is - Puppies !! Sadly, she can no longer have any of her own, so she takes great delight in anyone else having a litter.

She is delighted to announce that her daughter, the lovely Delyth has just been scanned (by the local sheep scanner !! - well we do live in Wales !) who pronounced that she is confirmed in whelp.

Thalice is looking forward to the birth in early November and once the novelty has worn off she will kick Delyth out of the whelping box and take over tending to the pups.

Mother says that all puppies are spoken for otherwise she wouldnt have allowed this to happen in this present economic climate.

Poor Delyth had a terrible time. She'd been off her food for the last week of her pregnancy when when she started in labour she kept drinking water and throwing it back up.

The first pup was stuck so we dashed off to the vet who decided on a caesarian. Then the placentas wouldnt detach from the uterine wall and she had to be spayed at the same time. Whilst they had her on the table they checked for gastric obstructions and found her small intestine was entwined with a strip of hessian, her stomach contained bits of chewed coal and candle wax, then in her bowel was an 8 inch piece of dog lead. She was in surgery for 5 hours and she was very very poorly and had to stay in hospital overnight

Although still very poorly, she was reunited with her puppies the next day and although she wanted to, she couldnt look after them. She gradually came round and began feeding and cleaning them - and now 3 weeks later every one is doing fine - plump and succulent - very much to her credit.

Oh my word Thalice, what a time of it she had (and all those around her I'm sure). What a worry. Gentle healing hugs to her and snuggly puppy cuddles to the pups and big hugs for you and your mum. xxxxxxxx
