Collie Question - is 'stalking' behaviour natural?

Hello!

I have noticed that when Brandie (collie x german shepherd) goes to meet other dogs she moves along keeping very low and close to the ground, like when collies are working with sheep. Sometimes if we're further away she runs a bit, stops, then runs a bit more.
I was wondering if this was just a natural behaviour or if there is a reason that she does it ?
She is off the lead when she does it and I haven't seen her do it in any other situation. After having a quick sniff of the other dog she goes back to normal.

Thanks

yes its normal collies always do this my two do it all the time really funny to see its a natural behaviour and nothing to worry about the instinct of going to ground when seeing another dog is just a collies behaviour they see other dogs as sheep even if they have never been around them all perfectly normal

Yes, agree with Bluemerle. Cassie does it when she's waiting for the ball to be thrown. Really funny to see but completely natural Collie behaviour. She has the herding instinct as well, especially if you're not all in the same room at the same time LOL

Thanks, I'm glad it's normal! I was shocked when I first saw her do it, she looked so strange!
