Special Home Needed for 11 month old Welsh Sheepdog

Scooby is an 11 month old Welsh Sheepdog castrated male. He's vaccinated up to date and has had good training.

Scooby has lived his life on a dairy farm helping with the livestock and generally running around all day with his owner.

Unfortunately, this kind of lifestyle has brought to light that Scooby has hip dysplasia and, although the vets are optimistic that this may improve greatly once his joint capsule thickens at 18 months - 2 years old, his current lifestyle is doing no favours and his owner cannot offer him the kind of lifestyle he needs to recover.

Scooby is currently on metacam daily to manage the pain, and needs a quiet life in a home with other dogs, plenty of mental stimulation and gentle lead walks.

Scooby has lived with cats and is cat-friendly, he is a very friendly boy although I don't know how much he has been socialised with young children. I have his brother and sister here and they are brilliant adaptable dogs.

Ideally Scooby needs a home ASAP.
Please get in touch via email on vicki.ann.moxon'at'gmail.com if you can help.

Thank you

This is Scooby with one of his friends (ignore the date, wrong settings on my friend's cam)

I hope so too, he's a really special boy and had been doing so well at his herding classes too until this came to light.

I wish I could have him myself, but we've got our hands full with our own 4 dogs.

I have a rescue dog called Oliver and he has severe hip dysplasia he is 8 years of age and has adapted very well to his condition and unless you look at him from behind and notice he has a strange gait ,it would be difficult to notice his problem .
We got him from FOSTBC in yorkshire the tel number is 01274 566250 maybe if you give them a ring they may be able to help ,they are a great rescue and have been invaluable for advice to me in the past .

Thank you. It's great to hear that your boy has adapted so well and lives a full life able to go on walks free of pain.

I shall pass the information onto his owner. I think she would rather place him in a home that she herself chooses but obviously should that home not come forward within a certain time frame, it's good to know of recommended rescues that would be able to help Scooby to adapt to his condition and place him in a suitable home.

I know for certain that once Scooby's lifestyle has been changed and he has adapted mentally to the change, and he's on glucosamine, chondroitin and msm and metacam he will be a different dog and what he is currently going through will not afflict him again for a very long time.

His brother, who I own, has the same problem but as he has had a different lifestyle he simply has a strange gait and 'lazy' back end, but no pain.

My friend has decided to keep Scooby for now to see how he gets on. I'm hoping that will be permanent.
