At long last I did it!

Because house builders think of everything when they design a house, I've had to have my telephone wires trailing across the floor because there are no electrical sockets by the telephone point However, today I managed to find an extension lead that is just the right length to go round the door frame from the socket to where the phone point is. Hurrah! I can now use the door instead of having to go through the dining room and kitchen into the hall to answer the front door lol!
