Harrison ~ Gorgeous Boy - 3yo Brindle Greyhound

HARRISON

Harrison is a year 3 old greyhound boy. There is only word for Harrison and thats 'handsome'! He has stunning white markings that offset his lovely brindle coat.

Before coming to us Harrison had injured the tendons in one of his legs and had to have an operation to correct it. He is now fully recovered though no longer fast enough for the track and this is how he came to us.

Harrison is proving to be a perfect gent. He loves cuddles and is well mannered in the kennels. We don’t expect that given Harrison's movie star looks (yes we did name him after THAT Harrison) he will be in kennels for long.

**UPDATE: APRIL 2010a**

Harrison has been tested with our resident kitty and has turned out to be not cat friendly.

This gorgeous boy is still waiting for his (catfree) forever home.

**UPDATE: APRIL 2010b**

Harrison has been with us for over a month now and has settled nicely in to the daily kennel routine. He is a very relaxed, easy going boy when out on walks and greatly enjoys his one-on-one attention, soaking up all the head rubs and ear scratches he can get!

This lovely boy will make a super companion for someone.

**UPDATE: JUNE 2010**

Harrison has now moved across to the UK where he is waiting for his forever home in kennels in Norfolk.

Gorgeous Harrison was lucky enough to partake in our KGC Annual Jamboree in Kerry, Ireland, and he proved to be quite the head turner. He is a gorgeous big lad with a rich brindle coat and bright eyes that always catch your attention.

Harrison absolutely adores people and is a very human-centric hound, often preferring the company of humans over canines. He is not yet small dog friendly and can be a bit grumbly with other male dogs, though this should lessen now that he has been neutered. As such we feel Harrison would do very well as an only dog, or perhaps sharing with another female who is not overly dominant. He will require a patient, loving owner who will socialise him with all dogs, large and small, to get him used to meeting all types and sizes when out on his walks.

In general greyhounds are calm, mannerly dogs who are well used to being handled. They can fit very well in to a wide range of different lifestyles and usually adjust to the home life very quickly. Their soft, easy going nature often makes them ideal to live in a family with children, while their love of lazing around and low exercise requirements can make them perfect for the elderly. Greyhounds also don’t shed as much as other more popular dog breeds and this can make them suitable to live with allergy sufferers.

Whoever is prepared to work with Harrison is sure to be rewarded in spades. He is a truly lovely boy, a big brindle teddy bear, and with a bit of work he has the potential to become a perfect dog. He most definitely deserves that chance.

**UPDATE: SEPTEMBER 2010**

Dear Harrison has now moved in to foster care, and has sadly found the transition rather stressful. After spending his entire life in kennels, this lovely boy has found a house to be a scary place, and initially he was very timid and nervous of people in the home.

The good news is he is improving every day, and is slowly adjusting to the change in environment. He is now starting to put some trust in his fosterers, and this combined with his increasing confidence is allowing his personality to start to shine through.

Harrison’s fosterers describe him as an ‘absolute darling’, saying that once he knows you he is very affectionate, though is not overly demanding or clingy. He is now starting to play with his toys in the garden and can become quite boisterous when playing. He has a few ‘mad moments’ where he flings his toy around and this is a joy to watch. He is a bit of a hoarder and likes to bury his toys in the garden and even tries to squeeze them under the sofa for safekeeping!

Harrison is quiet and well mannered in and around the home, being non-destructive and fully housetrained. He responds to his name and knows basic commands. He has been left alone for 2 hours with no major fuss and his fosterer is working on increasing this time. He sleeps through the night, enjoys his food and is a hungry boy!

Harrison enjoys taking trips in the car, and settles very well. He loves his walks and looks forward to them daily. Unfortunately the transition from kennels to a home environment seems to have shaken Harrison’s confidence, and right now he can be quite nervous of meeting dogs he doesn’t know out on walks. He will back up and try to run away if they approach him. This is being worked on daily and with a bit of training and socialisation it shouldn’t be too long before Harrison gets back his confidence. He needs to be muzzled right now as a precaution, and he can be quite interested in small dogs if they are active and bouncy. Harrison can also be unsure around noisy or active children too, having not had much experience of them before.

Harrison is going to need a patient, loving owner who will accept that he may regress a bit when he changes homes again, and who will allow him to open up in his own time. He would do best in a quiet home with no young children and with perhaps another laid back female to remind him how to relax. He is a truly gorgeous boy with great potential and is sure to give back tenfold what he gets.

It is very early days yet for Harrison, and we are sure that his is going to greatly improve over the coming months now that he is getting the one-on-one attention that only a foster home can offer.

Handsome Harrison is currently in foster care in Norfolk, UK. He is neutered, vaccinated and microchipped and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure.

If you are interested in adopting Harrison, please email meour adoption application form and information pack. Thanks!

**UPDATE: SEPTEMBER 2010b**

Harrison recently took part in the Kerry Greyhound Connection Fun Dog Show, held in Norfolk. He was a very well behaved boy and made his fosterer proud of his progress. He was quite happy and sociable amongst all the crowds, and seems to be settling very well in his new environment.

**UPDATE: OCTOBER 2010**

Lovely Harrison is continuing to improve and gain confidence in his foster home, and is really coming out of himself now.

His fosterer is working really hard on socialising him and exposing him to lots of different sights and sounds, and its really paying off. With a bit more work he will soon be a super confident hound, content and relaxed in just about all situations.

Harrison recently went along to the KGC annual greyhound walk in Norfolk, and he really enjoyed his day out. He loved being around so many greyhounds again and was so happy to get out on the beach for a walk.

Handsome Harrison is currently in foster care in Norfolk, UK. He is neutered, vaccinated and microchipped and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure.
