Call me daft but I would be worrying that if they were in a nice warm house all day and then put outside to sleep at night when its even colder they would really get chilled through.
Couldn't bear my babies outside anyway, they are my friends, companions and important members of my family and I would be worried sick they would get stolen or fall ill and I wouldn't know till it was too late.
On the otherside I feel secure with them in the house beside me as I know if an intruder come in they would definatly hear and alert and hopefully protect me.

A lot of big dogs prefer being outside - as already stated - I know mine would. In the summer I had to physically bring them in of a night time and even now one of them will hang about late at night, hiding, hoping I will just lock up and leave her - no chance. But I know lots of people with this breed (and akitas, pyreneans) that kennel them and they are happy to be there. Its a personal choice I think. as long as the dogs are happy, walked, exercised, fed and well looked after, it should be ok

First of all it seems to be, mention an Akita and it's oh they're a handful and a hard breed. As long as you do your homework and appreciate the traits of an Akita then they are an easy breed to live with. My closest friends have six of them, but neither would have a border collie. They think it would be too demanding and compared to an Akita they are. The only difference is an Akita is a large, heavy dog so you make it clear to them at an early age who is the top dog in the house.
Secondly a breed like an akita that is triple coated can suffer in our general central heated homes and are in the main quite happy to be outside.
How many of our dogs will go and lie on the hard kitchen floor rather than lie on our thick carpets next to the fire. Some will, some won't.
I choose to have my dogs inside (and yes on the bed). Am I doing it for the benefit of the dog or am I doing it for me? The answer both. I want them inside so that noone can get to them and they are safe. However I do not see a problem of having your dog outside at night, as I have said in a previous post.
Tee is not suggesting that her dog will be out all the time, and a dog does not lose out on love and socialisation just because it is kenneled outside. Some dogs are in fact much happier to be outside and have their own space.
hi megan, I tend to agree with your post with regards to people hearing akita and saying wow handful, personaly I have little knowlage of akita's though I would consider them as a dog for the future, I would obviously do my homework though, People are gob smacked when I tell them I currently have 7 rotts but if im being honest the hardest dog I ever had was a collie, I had one for 11 years and he was so complex, unlike the rotts who are open books my point being looks can be deceiving and never judge a book by its cover
sometimes the most inocent looking dogs pose the biggest challenge. many collie owners swear they are easy and wonder how I manage to get rotts to behave, I feel collies are always a step ahead and it takes a certain type of owner to bring the best out in them,
diff strokes for diff folks though,
