I'm sure your doing a great job training and socialising her. My issue isn't that her first walk was varied to give her scents etc, it's that she knows the second one very well, is very comfortable there and is willing to push things further. It may be that its convenient and it's off lead, other dogs etc but to her it's a place of "doing stuff" always the second walk, roughly the same time each day and greeting other dogs will usually happen in the same way...is say if she is getting sulky about not going there and pushing boundaries when she is there then it may make a recipe for bad habits. Like I said im sure your doing a great job and she has a great time on walks, I'm in no way aying dont go there anymore but I do think you have an hour whether pitts in that enclosure our elsewhere. IME it does no harm to keep them on their toes as it were and it can do harm in a way top have too much routine. This is only in my experience, but the reason I say it is I learns the hard way and retraining a dog with expectations is really hard work!
Ps, I'm on the bus so I'm sorry about typos, hope this post isnt too hard to understans!

My Golden Retriever has done that to me, suddenly he about turned and ran towards the road, and he did the same thing a week later. So that particular spot i keep him on the lead, and to be honest I probably always will.

The best 2 things which helped with his recall, I found

1/ Never feed him before a walk
2/ recall to a whistle.

Do you live near woods? My Jasper's favorite thing is to go crashing through the woods looking for bunnies.

Thank you I understand what you are saying and agree, the last dog I had a rescue lurcher knew how to push boundaries etc and I am very keen not to repeat the same experience. It makes sense that she is confident in the field and will venture more, I think I need to retract a bit on the training back to some basics. I took her around the lakes this morning on her lead to make a change. I will continue to visit the field but break up the routine I really wish there were more enclosed spaces to try her out on, can't complian there are plenty of walks as out in the country but she would run off at the moment. Thanks again for your support

I agree with not feeding before the walk although she is still not a bit interested in high value treats when off lead. I thought about trying a whistle, I can whistle loudly with my fingers and get a small response from her. I would love to let her off in the woods but don't feel confident. To date (apart from recent incident) she wouldn't come back immediatly but always watched where I was, never out of sight before she came back) Although this not ideal as in an emergency I would want that immediate recall. I suppose in a wood she would be right away from roads, it just might take me hours if she wandered

If she's not interested in food have you tried a toy?

My dog was never very foody either, in the end I found play/toys worked best for recall and generally gaining/keeping his attention, he just likes fun, fun, fun though

One of the show type Golden's I sometimes look after is very non-motivated when it comes to treats or toys. She is, however, very motivated to do whatever she wants! consequently, when I walk her she spends most of her time on the lead. Her owners do the same (on lead far more more than off).

If you want there to be a special toy, then always end the play on a big high, when she still REALLY wants it, not when shes had enough or isn't interested anymore. That way she will stay interested, builds it up over time too, have her want the toy more than she ever gets to have itbefore trying elsewhere. Try different types to find a real favourite too.
