Common Misconceptions Of Your Breed?

Mine are:-

Untrustworthy, Vicious, Must be a guard dog, Bad with people (esp children)/Dogs etc, Greedy/Eat a lot, Hard to train, Stupid (this one surprises me as they are an incredibly intelligent breed).

I am very interested in hearing from a variety of breeds owned. What are the most common misconceptions people have of your breed?

That because they don't bark they must be silent and not make good watch dogs trust me they can be far from silent and don't miss a trick if someone is around

GSD's - one people dogs! Afraid not
GSD's - excellent guard dogs. Yes, but only to warn you I think, and then let you get on with it! I've had somebody come through my 6ft. driveway gates, only to be escorted to my back door with a gsd on either side of him enjoying their pats on the head! The one I have now, would sleep through any burglary, although I think he's an exception.
GSD's aggressive - out of the 6 that I've owned, they've all been as soft as butter, total lapdogs in fact!
GSD's - Need lots of exercise. Not in my book. An hour a time, or even 40 mins twice a day hasn't done my dogs any harm, and in fact, NONE of them have suffered with any hip problems, and 3 of them have lived to the age of 16, and I only lost one at 12 through cancer with no hip problems either!

English Springer Spaniel

With the two I've had - must of the preconceptions are not too wide of the mark.

Bernese Mountain Dog. Friendly towards all people. Except Ollie. He has his chosen few and prefers it that way. People are surprised when you tell them they are a naturally wary breed some outgrow it others don't Ollie hasn't.
Must need lots of exercise, Ollie can do an hour at a push then has had enough.
Must eat a lot, definately not have too watch their weight.
Must admit though I think Ollie is an exception where his breed are concerned.

That he is a labrador or a black setter.
That he is well behaved.

That guide Dog puppies come ready trained, from birth, as if by magic....
