New Puppy and older dog

We have 2 labradors aged 9 and a westie aged 7. All fit and well.

Today I brought home a puppy aged nearly 9 weeks.

Labradors are fine. Normal laid back. Sniffed puppy. Let puppy climb on them. Bit their tail. Licked puppy and moved away when puppy got too much.

Westie however..... wont leave the puppys side. In anannoying way. Like shes stuck to her. If I pick the puppy up to put her onthe newspaper to go potty my westie literally barges past to get straight to the puppy!!! Currently i have put the puppy in the crate and shut the door (puppy is asleep) and westie is sat next to the crate whinning and whimpering her head off!!! Like she does when post man comes!!!!

Advice?!

Aww is she trying to mother her?
I don't really have an answer. When you say in an annoying way what do you mean?

Standing over her, as soon as Penny moves she tries to direct the way she is walking. She is like a siamese twin!

I never stroke one without the other (only had puppy for 1 day) to avoid jealousy. My other 2 (labradors dont do it) its just th westie. Its so strange. She follows he but not graciously behind, like at the side and pushes her, nudges her out of the way etc

Hello Danielle if the Westie is overpowering the puppy can you move her to another room.

Maybe you can block off part of the door to the crate so the puppy can get inside to escape if things get too much but the Westie can't follow .

The puppy is too young to walk far I know, allowing them time together in a large area where there are other smells and distractions may help. Do you have a garden they can run around in.

Things should calm down in time as the Westie gets used to having the new arrival arround.

The puppy doesnt seem to mind too much but has grumbled at her a few times. When she grumbles one of us takes the westie to one side and distracts her. I cant let her out yes as she hasnt had her injections. I have let her out on our back garden and she ran round and the westie was just the same.

On a side note the puppy HATES being away from us or locked in her crate even with us in the room! Thats because the breeder and her family used to carry her around while they cooked etc like a baby :O so if she is playing she is fine but when she is tired she cries to get on the sofa on our knees and claws at our legs, she screams at the crate even if we are in same room!

Its going to be a little harder to train her than when the others were pups

My Bunny kinda did this when Nigredo was a puppy. When he'd lay down, she'd come and headbutt him until he got up. I do not know why. He'd have to be laying down trying to sleep, on his side.

She'd just bump her head into his repeatedly until he got up or something. This eventually stopped as it began to annoy him and he'd "puppy" her (bombard, play with too much, bite at her limbs) which she hated. I think the puppy will outgrow the westies behavior.
