vaccination, training schools and kennels

(Not sure where this is best placed, so apols if I picked the wrong section).

If all goes well, I'm hoping to get a puppy from a highly respected breeder who doesn't vaccinate but uses homeopathic nosodes instead. But it's occured to me today whether that might cause problems when it comes to going to puppy classes and joining a training club. Do they ask to see vac. records before they'll accept a puppy/dog for a class, or is nosode protection generally accepted as an alternative ?

I guess the same question applies to kennels though I don't intend to use kennels as the breeder will board her own dogs, though of course circumstances might change.

I assume shows are ok as her dogs are shown and are successful too.

I have absolutely no idea.

I suppose the best thing to do would be to contact the local training classes that you are thinking of attending (as you should be looking early enough anyway) and asking them.

I haven't heard of the nosodes treatment instead so I don't know but if the training classes feel there is any potential threat to other puppies undergoing vaccinations at the time, they probably wouldn't let you.

As far as training classes in the future - I can't see why not there are many people that take unvaccinated dogs to training. It's only puppy classes when they're in the middle of vaccinations and so can't go out where unvaccinated dogs have been that may be a problem.

I THINK. lol

from experience, most dog trainers will ask to see proof of vaccinations, especially for puppy classes. many wont allow a puppy into the class if it hasnt had its vacs. although it might be worth phoning around to see if they accept a natural remedy for this.

kennels also will not allow a dog in without vaccinations.

no idea about shows, soz

hope this helps

Puppy training classes and kennels nearly all ask for certification of up to date vaccination. Think by law that kennels have to do so.

Kennels will definitely ask for vaccination certificates, not all puppy classes do. My friend uses the nosodes but I'm not sure I'm convinced.

I'm not absolutely certain, but I think you either have to continue the nosodes or you can use conventional vaccinations.

Thanks for the replies everyone. The litter isn't due until end of May so a way off yet, but will of course contact the training schools/clubs I've got in mind beforehand to get full details.

But going on your experiences it's definitely needs further investigation. The concept of nosodes appeals but then I will need puppy socialisation/early training classes as there aren't loads of people I know locally who have dogs and I'll be a newbie dog owner. I see a potential conflict

If this is interest to others I'll report back on my findings.

The best person to ask those things of would be the breeder herself. Would think she`d know as she`s already using them herself & must have experience of those things

I know therapy pets use nosodes

Hi,
Think you need to be careful, parvo is around at the moment and is a terrible way for a pup to die...
Sounds like you're doing your research thoroughly. Don't know where I stand on the vaccs issue, but do know i would never forgive myself if one of my dogs died through a preventable disease...
Not trying to be controversial, just the other side of the coin...

Yup. more research definitely needed. It also occured to me that insurance companies may require traditional vacs too. My vets have a homepathic vet so will try to book an appointment with him when I take the cat down for her annual check-up.

Thanks everyone for your input.
