Benson, 18 month old Terrier X needs home!

Benson is 18 months old; a terrier x who poss. has staffie in there as he is brindle but has a slender frame and narrow head. About 15" to the shoulder so small medium size. Benson lost him home as a toddler was intent on tormenting him and finally unobserved he snapped back when examed Benson had had a bottle top thrust in his mouth. The family are adament he is of the gentlest nature and has coped so well with the full-on attention he was receiving. Benson enjoys his walks and is of a quiet disposition..noticeable in a younger dog. He mixes well with dogs. For his sake we would like him to go in with older children or no children so he can relax within an aware and trusted environment.

Benson is newly neutered; chipped and vax'd. Here he is in the vets..worried but met the surgery dog with a welcoming tail. He is currently in kennels. He likes the car and is very adaptable.

Little Benson is coming on in leaps and bounds (literally!) He is such a little character and flies out into the paddock every time he is let out like he has never seen it before!

He is an inquisitive little soul and is into every little smell that is around. His recall is excellent though and he will come to his name even if he is in a different exercise area and out of sight. He is desperate to please and very quickly picks up commands.

He is wasted in kennels. He deserves one to one and a loving home, but in the meantime a foster home would be great.

You can see Benson’s individual thread on our forum on our website page.

I met Benson last weekend and we had a very enjoyable walk in the woods together. He is a lovely boy! Very responsive and well natured. One of our regular dog walkers/assessors thinks he has the potential to make a good agility dog as he is so focused. Here are his latest photos ... so cute ...

Benson has been with us since December and we now know so much more about him. He is also currently fostered with Lynne in Richmond. We have rewritten his ad to reflect what we know about his personality - here it is with some lovely new photos ...

History: Lost his home as he was being tormented by a toddler.

Salient points: Puppy energy, but not destructive. Needs basic training course; will come off lead. Secure fair sized garden. Still mouthy, but soft - takes treats well. Learning to share, can react sharing bones and treats well unless pack leader controls. Grew up in young family.

Advert: Benson finds himself in rescue like so many dogs through no fault of their own, he is just coming up to 2 years old. He is a young terrier who has the same stature as a terrier with brindle flecks throughout his coat showing the Staffie sweetness is in there too. Benson is friendly to people and dogs ... such a sociable dog. Benson is housetrained and has basic commands. Benson could live with another dog providing treats are managed as he learns to share. He adores life, family and fun. Now neutered, vax'd and chipped. Currently fostered in Richmond, Surrey.

Benson coped well in with a busy young family and is currently coping living with 5 terriers! He loves his walks and has a nice balance of wanting to meet dogs, but can be called away easily as his real connection is with you. He is fun to walk and his dog skills are good. Benson is a sweetheart ... whose home must surely be just around the corner.

If you are interested in re-homing please complete our homing questionnaire so we can ensure our dogs are matched and will suit your circumstances/lifestyle.

Here is an update from Benson's foster home ...

"Benson is doing great, he has settled down beautifully with Ruby, they play really well together. We have not had any food possessiveness problems recently, but I think Ruby is really good at reading any signs he may give off and keeps out of his way until he's finished before she double checks his food bowl. If they have chews or anything I do have to watch him as he sometimes hides them for later. I haven't had any issues with Benson and other dogs recently, but I do keep a close eye on him for warning signs - he doesn't like interference and can be a little protective of Ruby. He really enjoys his walks, but hates to go out in the rain - he does not like getting wet! When he's indoors he loves to settle on the sofa or in the sun for a snooze. He's a very quiet dog, unlike Ruby, who loves his comfort and to be tickled under the chin or behind his ears. He will still try and nibble your arm when he gets excited, but this can be easily controlled by a firm no. He is really a very loveable dog. James took the attached picture, I think it captures Benson beautifully".
