If I see people with any kind of dogs round here I look to the owner and judge them first, I know it's bad but i'm usually good on first impressions and you can usually tell a yob from a mile off. If I know the person then I don't think twice about the dog no matter what it's breed. TBH it's more staffies here there's not so many rotts.

Occasionally I meet a guy at the dams who has a JRT type dog and a lurcher. He looks as if he's in his mid to late thirties.

The wee terrier is fine, it usually has a quick, passing mingle with my two but doesn't get much of a chance as his numpty of an owner is too busy rushing him on all the time for him to get the chance to socialise.

The lurcher, on the other hand, is aggressive towards other dogs, all dogs, it seems to be, not just some dogs.

The first time I met him we were walking in opposite directions, both my dogs and his were off lead. The lurcher started barking manically and aggressively at my two (all still of lead, at this point) while he shouted "get yer dogs on a lead, hen, mine'll have them". Mine were near me, I called them over to me and got them to sit in front of my on the grass at the side of the path. They did as they were told though they wouldn't have fought anyway, but I didn't want to risk them getting hurt by this lurcher. I was insulted at this so I said to him that my dogs are fine thanks and that it's obviously not my dogs with the problem. He expected ME to put MY dogs on a lead while his were both off lead, one being aggressive towards my dogs! Cheeky swine. He had leads in his hand, it wasn't as if he had none. I think he thought I was some daft wee lassie or something. The poor dog is so stressed as it doesn't seem to know how to behave around other dogs and he isn't even getting a chance to learn.

Next time I met him, and now, if he sees me coming he puts the lurcher on the lead. I keep my two close by me without making a big deal of it, so they are not spooked.

The terrier still has a quick mingle in the passing though, while he rushes it on quickly before it's even managed one or two sniffs. I feel like telling him to give the poor thing a chance to socialise!

With regards to seeing people I don't know who have one (or more) Rottweilers or any other dog, for that matter, I must admit that I try and suss out the owners first before deciding on the dog. I think you have to otherwise you could be risking your dogs safety if you don't. It's terrible, but it has to be done.

At the weekend I seen a couple of Neds with a Staffie, whom they put a lead on. One of them shouted to me to get my dogs on a lead - - before asking me were there bitches, to which I said yes then they said that was ok as he doesn't like other males. Poor dog. As they were passing me the Staffie had a go at the guys ankles. I felt so sad.
