Absolutely shocking website. (Pit Bull)

This site was linked to me, I have to say its shocking. The amount of PB attacks is astonishing (US & UK) I think when looking at the stats, I can understand peoples feelings towards them.

WARNING.
Contains info on dog attacks.

OMG, I have had to come off due to some of the pics. I didn't realise the sheer volume of attacks over there.

that site does shock you to the core, many people and animals have suffered, I do have a question though, how do we really know what is from pits what from other bully breeds and what are cross breeds with no pit bull in them, many people will say that anything is a pit bull, and from personal experience when I was bitten by Punch because I went to hospital and the injuries it had to be reported, and the breed of dog was asked, I said English Bull Terrier, and the lady taking the breed down said Pit bull terrier and started writing that down, its only because I heard her that I was able to stop her, and I did shout at her I'll admit that and make sure that she wrote EBT, as otherwise that could of been statistic down and that was the wrong breed.

On another forum I am a member of (mainly american members) one of them was recently attacked while out riding.

She has friends with APBTs and has known this one for a while. She is apparently a nice calm bitch, but they were around the water and the dog had got wound up, she flew at the horse and also the womans legs. The horse's wounds are now healing, but it is phobic about dogs and she has said she will never be able to trust one again

Any breed is capable of biting and attacking. Pitbulls are no different from any other breed except for the extreme hatred and misrepresentation that follows them around.

I'm sure there are websites that feature dog attacks from many different breeds if you really feel the need to look at people that have been attacked by dogs.

i think they are very misunderstood dogs. people are very quick to blame the breed and the dog without taking much notice of the owner and how it has been trained ect.

i love them personally and if they where not illegal here i would have one lol but they are very very powerful dogs which is why i think people are scared of them. little dogs attack just as much the only difference is that they dont do much damage due to thier size. pits are no more aggressive, they just do more damge if they attack.

It's strange I have swung from being wary of Pitbull's because of numpties having them where I lived in the UK. Two owners were often reported for their dogs behaviour (though I think in different hands, they'd have been nicer dogs) and nothing was ever really done about them.
To not really thinking about it, over here, my experiences with them here so far have been positive, the dogs often play with several in the dog park, neighbours have them, see them at the vets, the pet store, walking around with their owners on walks and it's all been okay.

But
,these are all well socialised family pets. Though, I expect lots of the dogs that did these attacks were too Very sad, and can't imagine what it must be like if a trusted pet turns on your family or you.

good posts you three.

i think another point to remember is that, especially in the US, people often use them to guard a property and they are often chained up with next to no socialisation. a dog who lives life chained, is 3 times more likely to attack. while some are treated badly, there are many who live life happily in a family environment with no issues. ive even seen footage of dogs used for fighting, who are giving loads of love to the people rescuing them. that to me speaks volumes.

There AREN'T that many. First of all, pit bulls are incredibly popular here. Just on my block alone there are 4 full pits and one pit mix. Our shelter is full of them. I meet them out on walks all the time. The dog park is full of them. I see more pits in my area than I do labs.

The news media is notorious for ONLY reporting pit attacks and for calling dogs who they aren't even sure of breed or breed mix as pits (and sometimes calling any stockier dog pit bulls). There was one horrible case where a woman was attacked and killed by a pair of large dogs in an elevator. The media called them pit bulls. They weren't. They were Presa Canarios. The media never retracted the statements and so most people still think they were pit bulls. I've seen boxers, lab mixes, bulldogs, and other short-haired dogs called pit bulls and pit mixes. It sells papers. Not that long ago every bad dog was a Rottweiler or a Doberman or a GSD.

The media also never states the reality of the dog's living situation. Every dog is a "family pet" even if it's used for fighting, chained out back, tied up in the basement and starved. The media is less than truthful in its reporting and so people get a very skewed idea of reality.

The truth is a very very SMALL amount of pit bulls attack or kill anyone. A small amount of dogs in general attack or kill anyone every year. I'd like to see a counter site with pit bull positive news, like the pit who saved a woman from being kidnapped and assaulted or the one who took a bullet shot saving his family from an armed robber.

But those rarely get reported and don't get focused on.

That site you linked to is nothing more than a scare tactic. I wonder if the people know they're using their pictures.
