I have to agree with you there - all a bit odd.

Thank god other people see this the way I do. I saw this before anyone posted and was reluctant to make any rash comments.
You need to have a serious word with him and tell him that if it continues, either you'll go and take his dog, or the dog needs to be rehomed. Everyone loses their temper with a disobedient dog once in a while, but when it goes further than a raised voice or a tap on the nose, it's gone too far.

I agree! I couldn't love someone who did this to an animal.

Are you serious?! Is this a joke?! I actually felt physically sick after reading that. He beat his own dog, purely because she wouldn't fetch an article?! What the hell?!
You usually 'stay silent' during a beating? Exactly how often does this poor dog get beat? And what is 'too violent'? Are only certain beatings exceptable, for certain situations? Let me tell you, NO dog ever deserves to be physically abused, especially for such a pathetic reason.
My God- I really hope you take your dogs and get the hell out of there, this guy is an abuser, plain and simple.

Hi Leanne,

I think it's pretty clear what we all think about your post.... what I want to say now is this.....:

don't use our arguments to try and convince your OH that you are right..... just get out!!!!! and if you can't take his dog with you, call the RSPCA to help his dog!!!!! If he believes he's doing the right thing, no amount of pleading from you wlll help! The dog needs to be saved now, and you do not need this kind of man in your life!!!!

The very fact that you appear to have seen him beat his dog before, and have only intervened this time because it was "too violent" doesn't make you that much better than him, in my opinion.

Disgusting behaviour.

Poor dog.....
