hi
imo in working breeds ,they should be the one and same,a dog that is bred for what it was bred to do,which in theory should conform to the breed standard, that said in alot of breeds i prefer the working type aesthetically, but does that mean its right hmmm do i vote dual purpose or working??

Now THOSE are Labs to me. Lovely.

My Dex's half-sister is on there I noticed:

Sire is fully show bred but also a Field Trial Winner.

Carole Coode always breeds dual purpose stuff, I first me her in 1987 I think.

Fully field trial bred Labrador:

Fully show bred American and English Champion:

Quite shocking really. They look like entirely different breeds. I can't even recognize the first dog as a purebred Lab as it derives so far from the breed type.

This pretty much sums it up for me, but a long way off for many of the Gundog breeds.

Even with HWV there's a divide beginning, just shows how quickly these things can happen when you consider how long the HWV has been in Britain!

With the English Springer I like neither the heavily coated, blood hound eyed show type, or the small, white field trial type (no offence intended). I prefer something middle of the road (and to be fair to Isla, she ain't far off! ) and it's still my dream to one day breed Englsih Springers that look like English Springers, but can still handle a day in the field.

I definitely prefer the second one! It's how a Lab should look in my mind, albeit a little slimmer!

It's interesting to note that in the breed standards, the height difference between English Springers and Labs is only 2 inches! And as far as I'm aware neither standard has changed height wise since their introduction......

Naww, his weight looks perfect IMO. Don't forget that Labs should have no tuck up.

I must admit in this thread though, that although I don't really get excited about shows at one I was talking to a Swedish Vallhund breeder for ages, and here is the only show dog that has really made my heart stop, he's a Swedish import, and I am in love, and actually, even though I wouldn't of thought it, I want one, which is a first from seeing a dog at a show lol.

Even in them photos I prefer the first one when he's not in a stack or whatever its called position but I can see me owning one of these in the future.

And I also prefer the first dog in Labradorks post, espcailly the first pic, she looks scrumptious, although in the second one her back looks funny, is that just the way she's sat?
