Another Ebay Scam - Beware!

Well my boss was buying something expensive off ebay today and asked the receptionist here to sort out all the payment etc.

She got an email that asked her to pay via 'Western Union Money Transfer' basically by cash.

She went off to a local brach to pay when luckily they warned her they had had a few scams lately and to perhaps speak to the seller first.

Luckily she came through to me, I had a look at the email and it looked a bit strange, some bits didn't add up so I told her to email the guy and ask if we could pay via paypal, that way we would be covered if it was a scam. Fortunately she did one better and phoned him, turned out it wasn't him at all, this guy wasn't even selling the item, some fraudster had been using his username on fake emails.

Receptionist also said that this afternoon the guy emailed again to hurry her up and ask that she make the cash payment to a relative to aviod TAX.

So beware ebayers, if you are asked to pay via 'Western Union Money Transfer' please think twice about it and if you are concerned suggest another payment, paying by cash is a bit too risky!

thanks for the warning! ... it's like those items on ebay (mostly cars/vans ...) where it is said that the person is selling the item for a friend ... i find that very suspicious!!!

Hello,

Thanks for the warning, although I think that Ebay warn you about Western Union and advise you not to use it if possible.

I buy and sell on Ebay, and yes Paypal is the best way to pay.
