I have no experience of pet insurance companies, but think they would think that the upgrade partly into a condition was 'fishy'. Perhaps someone with better information will advise, but I think they would class it as being after the event, and disallow any future claim.

Yes that is what I thought and I honestly don't want to mislead them in any way. I think I may telephone them and tell them what has happened and see what they advise.

Thanks

Had to take him back to vet as his back legs completely stopped working. Vet said to keep him caged until Monday then take him back if no better he needs surgery.

Have spoken to insurance who won't let me reinstate my old insurance and he won't be covered under new insurance. I am devastated and will never forgive myself.

Does anyone know how much surgery could cost?

Thank you

Sorry I don't know. I don't suppose he will know exactly how he is going to tackle it until he exposes the area, but he should be able to give you a between x and y figure. I'm sorry that you have lost your insurance cover, but don't beat yourself up - we all make mistakes, and Bert is the priority. If finance is a problem, you could always ask if he would let you have a payment arrangement.
Do keep him caged, it is important. Good luck!

I wouldn't rush to surgery tbh I'd make him a sling so I could hold up his back end and allow him to move about a bit. I'd go down the bed rest route and see what developed. I had a Boxer who broke his neck, couldn't stand to go to the toilet without assistance etc and yet went on to make a complete recovery without any vet treatment apart from cortisone injections. See if it can improve with a few lifestyle changes such as no stairs, no jumping on and off furniture etc. just give it a bit of time and before resorting to surgery find out what the expected prognosis is for after surgery.

Been to see surgeon today who thinks surgery is the best option. They are keeping him in over weekend to catheterise him and make him comfortable. Mri Monday then possibly surgery at a cost of approx £7000. We are covered with insurance up to £4000.

It's very scary but feel better knowing that the professionals are looking after him now.

Thanks

I hope everything goes well on Monday. He is a lucky boy to have you as an owner.
