Meet The Dogs From The Past - A+

This site contains photos of dogs from the 1800’s that are on display in the museum of England called: Rothschild Zoological Museum. Where photo has’s of dog breeds that are now 100% no longer with us. Even the breeds we have today however what some used to look like is very different indeed to what those breeds are today. Some breeds haven’t changed to much which is a good history lesson in dogs. Really interesting, just feel bad people killed off some of the breeds off. Some breeds we have now where almost killed of from not wanting our enimies from getting the breed. Ie: china with pekinese I believe it was. There's a hamster sized dog!?! That would be smaller then a chi! Crazyness. Wonder if the stars would have the hamster sized dog instead of the chi around in there purses.

The differences in some breeds, like the dachshund and basset hound are quiet apparent.
Makes me wonder about breed standards and how certain lines are used to exaggerate (spl?) certain features, often at the expense of the dogs' health.

I always liked dachunds, but would love to have one that looks like the "old style" dogs.

Very interesting but there is a mistake in the writing. They called the same dog by two different breeds. In the first pics of the Chinese Happa Dog the Japanese Chin thats in the back is called the Tibetan Spaniel. And farther down on the page is called the right name of a Chin or the Japanese Spaniel.
