Post Your Doggy Treats & Recipes Here!

HOME MADE LIVER BROWNIES

INGREDIENTS:
Container of Chicken Livers (I get the containers that you find in the meat section with the chickens - they are about 1 1/2 lbs.

1 egg
1 cup wheat germ
1 teaspoon garlic powder

Enough flour to make a batter the consistency of human brownie mix... (Amount will vary depending on the amount of liquid in the livers. If you make it too thick, add a little water to thin out...)

9x13 inch baking pan - well greased and floured.

METHOD:
In blender, blend liver and egg until as smooth as possible. Pour into large bowl. Add wheat germ, garlic powder and mix well. Add flour - start with one cup and add 1/4 - 1/2 cup at a time after that until desired consistency reached.

Pour into pan and bake at 350 F for 10 - 15 minutes, check and keep checking every five minutes or so until knife inserted in center comes out clean.

These will keep refrigerated for about a week

Just for Emma

ICED KONG
Plug the end of the Kong with a treat. Turn it upside down in a cup. Fill it full of chicken gravy and freeze. Try Cat food as well.
WARNING - Frozen kong can get messy and are recommended for outdoor use only.
SPANISH KONG
1 egg, grated cheese and any vegetables your dog likes.
Scramble the egg and fold in the vegetables. Squash into the Kong. Sprinkle some cheese over the top and microwave for about 20 seconds to seal the ingredients.
Cool thoroughly.
WARNING - Cheese becomes very hot in the microwave.

KONG AU GRATIN
Mix cheese pieces or cheese spread with your dogs usual dried dog food and press into the Kong.
Microwave until the cheese starts to melt and bind the food together. Let it cool to a safe temperature. Use a cup to contain the Kong when in the microwave.

NOUVELLE KONGS
Smear peanut butter or Marmite inside the cavity of the Kong for a quick and minimalist alternative.

TANTALISERS
Cheese, Chicken skin, Bacon, Pate, Cooked lamb's liver, meaty canned cat food. -
Use very sparingly and make sure this treat blocks the top hole so that none of your other ingredients fall out.

MAIN COURSES
Small dog biscuits, bread sticks, garlic bread, pizza crusts, carrot batons - These treats should be wedged into place. Experiment with different brands of dog biscuits and look at small dog sizes which are very versatile. You want to leave lots of interesting gaps. some biscuits should be harder to get out than others.

INSTANT REWARDS
Freeze-dried liver, cat treats, Chopped sausage, grated cheese. - These need to be small, flavoursome goodies. the second your dog nudges the Kong, some of these should fall out to get him hooked. If they are all dispersed immediately, its going to be a bit dull for your dog - so make sure you shake the Kong as you're filling it so some bits end up working their way into all the crevices created by the wedged biscuits.

BANANA-RAMA
1 fresh banana · 2 tbs wheat germ · 1 tbs plain yoghurt (can use your pet's favorite flavor as well) -
Mash up the banana, add wheat germ and yogurt. Mash all ingredients together and use spoon to add to Kong. Freeze for 4 hours.

CHEESY DENTAL KONG DELIGHT
3 slices of your pet's favorite cheese -
Just place the 3 slices of cheese directly onto the grooves of your pet's Dental Kong (if model has rope - make sure cheese does not get onto it).
Melt in microwave for 20 to 30 seconds. Give to pet after it cools.

PHILLY STEAK
Steak scraps · 1 ounce cream cheese -
Place small scraps of the steak inside Kong toy. Spread cream cheese in the large hole to hold scraps.

FRUIT SALAD
Apple and carrot chunks, 1/4th of a banana -
Place apples and carrots into Kong. Mush the banana in the large hole to hold fruit in place. You can include other fruits and vegetables, such as orange slices, peach, nectarine chunks, celery sticks, broccoli, cauliflower, tomato and black olive mixture.

MAC 'N CHEESE

Leftover macaroni and cheese ·
Add mac 'n cheese to Kong Toy. Make sure it has cooled before giving to your pet.

Ems:

I make kongs for Luna everyday.

I make one with canned tuna (in water), canned sardines (or canned mackarel in tomatosauce), yoghurt, and a bit of kibble and a diced apple if I have it.

Or creamcheese, apple and kibble.

I heard some use mashed potatoes... Some on the lab site puts veggies in aswell...

As long as there's something to bind it (yoghurt, cheese or something) then its only your imagination stopping you.

Luna loves them.

Thanks Lel, I'm going shopping for ingredients one of these days I think.....

Low Fat Rice & Egg pie

An easy, low fat pie that can be cut up into portions and frozen. Excellent for smaller dogs.

Ingredients
1 Cup Rice
2 Cup Mixed vegetable (frozen or canned)
1 Cup Cooked chicken or beef broth (fat removed)
3 Eggs
1/2 Cup Low fat milk
1 Cup Fat free natural yogurt
1/2 Cup Water with 1 chicken stock cube dissolved in it

Directions

Cook rice, put in medium sized casserole or pie dish, with the vegetables and chicken, mix well.
In a bowl, mix the eggs, milk, yoghurt, and chicken stock, beat well.

Add this egg mixture to the rice mixture and fold in well.

Cook in oven at 180C for about 1/2 hour or until set.

When it is cool, it can be cut into wedges and frozen in portions suitable for your dog. This pie can be mixed with other dog food or served on its own for a healthy low fat diet.

Fish Fudgies

12 to 14 oz of canned tuna, salmon or mackerel - do not drain
1 1/2 cups white flour
1 teaspoon minced garlic (optional)
2 eggs
Grated parmesan cheese (optional)

Process fish, garlic and eggs in food processor or blender or mix in a bowl, mashing thoroughly with a fork. Add remaining ingredients and mix to a brownie-like consistency. Spread into a 9x9-inch greased pan.

Bake at 350 degrees F for 20 minutes. When the fudgies are done, they will have a putty-like texture and the edges will pull away from the sides of the pan. Let cool until easy to handle, then cut into bars. These bars are easy to break up but don’t crumble easily. Cut them into three strips one way and eight or nine strips the other way.

Allow to cool thoroughly before putting into a sealed container.

Will keep for one week in the refrigerator or six months in the freezer.
