I know the pros and cons of dog creating but I dont or never have used one!
I must have had the perfect pup when I got Blue. He came from Kennels, I got him at 8 weeks.
On the first night I put him in a bed at the side of my bed with the jumper I had had on that day in it. He had not been socialised with humans until he came home with us. On the first night he whimpered about 4 times, each time I got up and took him into the garden. This pattern lasted for what seemed like eternity LOL but he never once messed in the house! He had one puddle, once! I also had a daughter of nearly 2 at the time. I am home all day every day so he got all the attention he needed as did my daughter.
The dogs have the run of my house the only thing i dont let them do is sit on my sofa but that is also my oppinion

Must say I'm a big fan of crates! For my dogs, not me! I can see why people could see them as cruel especially when the word "cage" is used. But after seeing your pic tuti, I'd be shocked if I found anyone who thought that was cruel! It looks positively cosy and a haven for the dog especially if theres kids about! Although I'd be tempted to put the kid in and let the dog have the house! (Joking!!!)

Dharma had a crate up until recently - we used it correctly - ie. only when needed. I have nothing against using a crate with an open door as a bed and only using it when people are out for *short* amounts of time or overnight, but when it gets to the point where a dog is locked in a crate for most of the day, whether the owner is in the house or not, it makes me wonder why they've got dogs at all.

the crates I have up at the moment are not there all the time, they are there to try and train the two pups I have at the moment, but the adult dogs love it so much in there, I have little chance of getting the pups in once the pups are trained then the cages will be put away til needed, and dogs will be back to having practically the full run of the back half of our home.

Yes but scottish boxer, dog are not children.

We have two puppies that are crate trained and they are perfectly happy! They have the own little 'den' where they can sleep and eat. From day one we crated them and we have never had a soiled crate and they haven’t winged once. I agree that use wrongly they are bad but use correctly they are brilliant. We recently took the puppies including there litter sister to their first dog show and they we’ve very happy to go in there crate all three of them (huge crate) they went to sleep and felt safe as the were in a place that they knew. We can take them anywhere as they can settle down and be quite relaxed. I think that it is the best thing that we have ever done but if you don’t want your babies locked up then that is entirely up to you

was expecting him to be a bit weird about it at first, but he loves it and sleeps happily in it with the door closed!
