Puppy has eye gunk

For the past couple of days when Roo has woken up he's had snot like gunk in the corner of his eyes. The whites of his eyes have also been on occassion slightly pink. The gunk doesn't appear to be crusting or on the eyelashes but it's enough for me to panic!

Should I take him to the vets?

We have plenty of saline and drops at home as OH has an eye condition himself, but I'm concerned in case it's an infection.

I need to phone the vets don't I?

You know what they say, if you ask to ask!!

Whenever I'm unsure, I ask to speak to the vet personally (and our vets are very good at advising over the 'phone whether or not we should go in or what to do instead)

Thank you, I called the vets and they said to bring him in as it sounds like an infection. He's booked in for 6pm this evening.

Well done! It's always worth a check before things get out of hand.

Give him a squidge from me and tell him I hope he feels better soon

He's sending you gunky kisses!

Thankfully I have a tonne of cocktail sausages in the fridge as he's not going to be happy spending walk time at the vets!

He's got conjunctivitus he was such a good boy at the vets though, he dragged me into the consulting room, tried to lick the vet to death and was very patient whilst he had his eye drops applied.

The vet did say they were seeing a lot of it at the moment and he thinks it's probably down to the mud and wet getting flicked in eyes.

He also said he was a huge Border Terrier fan and thought they were a 'much over looked terrier', he's the 2nd vet that has given me a ringing endorsement of the breed, which is lovely to hear as vets usually see the dogs at their worst (or at least they're on the recieving end of it!)
