Do you give the Priest money for a Baptism?

We've been told that a donation of £5 is required for a baptism to cover costs of the candle and certificate but does anyone know if it is usual to slip the Priest some more? If you do, how much do people normally give him?

yes , you can offer a small donation..... the best way to do it is, to put it in a small envelope, and put it in the collection box/tray that will be at the back of the church.

you can also pass this on to your guests...and they can do the same, if they feel they would like to do the same.

what ever you feel appropriate.... that is why it is best in an envelope, nobody can see how much you give.

I agree - the collection tray will be there. Pop any donation for the church in there, in an envelope if you wish.
The tray usually goes round the congregation, so hopefully your guests will have some money in their pockets too!!!

Is the baptism part of the mass LS?
OUr Church now does them seperately..
If there is nowhere you feel happy about leaving an envelope, you can pop it through the Presbytery door, or hand it to the Priest if you feel comfortable with that.

Thanks Ramble - it is going to be private, although shared with one other family. I'm quite glad about that really as it's quite a roomy Church and there are only a few of us.
xxx

I got a lovely Christening outfit - I couldn't resist it in the end
