Second line in?

There are 4 of us trying to use the internet in our house and it's just not good enough. We have a Sky package of TV, internet and phone, which costs quite a bit a month, but OH wonders if putting in another line would help, right now if youngest son goes on the XBox, nobody can do much else online and he complains his games are lagging (whatever that means
Sky don't offer a second line service so looked around and BT do, but you need to pay an installation fee, and monthly phone rental to get the internet package and really I was just wondering if anyone has done this, or if anyone can suggest any better option?
Right now, sons are taking turns a night each to play games online and chat to friends but as you can imagine with teenagers, this isn't going down too well!

My daughter (who is a NERD) suggests that BT Infinity (if available in your area) is the best. We have it, and have no problem at all.

For your sons gaming problems, the XBox or whatever preferably be plugged in by LAN which will solve lagging issues, and your normal web surfing laptops, comps etc, would be used wireless.

Try doing this before you switch providers, it may solve your problems and save your pennies

Good Luck

Oops, meant to put this in technology actually!

Deb/Pugglepup - Thanks for info, unfortunately we don't get BT Infinity in this area yet, might be another year before it is available here.
We'll try the LAN line though, makes you wonder what we did before the internet

She has gizmo's and gadgets all over the place. Remote control this and that!!

Sorry, but I can't answer any more questions about the problem now, coz she has gone away on holiday this morning for a week.

Isn`t this a bandwidth problem?
Talk to Sky about the problem first?
These problems don`t disappear with cable. You can tell when America wakes up by the way your download speed crashes. And ISPs cap usage anyway.
As always, you have to pay for speed.

Our BB could not cope with xbox, ps3 and computers online at the same time but when we upgraded to 50mb through Virgin it all works without any bandwidth problems.

Definitely true

Thanks for the replies, The bandwith seems to be the problem, had sky and bt out and they say as we are so far from the exchange we get a slower speed! (its not as if we live in a field or anything)
We can get virgin cable but not fibre optic. According to bt we are at our maximum width on the main line but a second line is available.
Sky are less than helpful, when we complained about broadband, they sent bt out to check the line, then told us it was a phone fault, then a line fault, then finally someone fixed a problem at the exchange and our broadband was resumed, at least we got 6wks money back for that episode.
It's just frustrating, I didn't think I used the internet much, until it wasn't available
We are out of contract with sky now, so looking around for a better deal.
