Prevention
1. Tattoo or microchip your dog and ALWAYS keep your details upto date
Try to avoid tattooing ears as it has been known for the ear to be cut off!
2. Place a tag on your dogs collar stating he/she has been nuetured/spayed
Dont state your dog is ID chipped as theives may try to cut it out!
3. Never tie your dog up outside a shop! Even if your only "popping" in
4. Never leave your dog unattended in a car
5. Beware of strangers asking "too many" questions about your dog
Take a mental note of what they looked like and write it down when you get home
6. Always hold onto the
collar when a stranger is stoking your dog. If a puppy pic it up!
Dogs leads have been unclipped in the past and the dog taken
7. Never let your dog out of your site when out walking - use a long training lead or lunge line if nessisary
Theives are opportunists.
8. Vary your walking routes and times
The less a theif knows about your routines the better
9. Keep your dog in view in your garden and dont leave them outside when your not home!
10. Secure fencing and gates are a must. Put an alarm on your gate and anti vandal paint/carpet grips on the tops of
Fencing.
Theives will try to break in and take your dog. The harder you make it, the less chance it will happen

This will help animal shelters, rescue, police, vets ect identify your dog quicker
