overfriendly pup

My 4month old bc pup, ripley is really really over friendly with people out on walks, this can be cyclists, joggers, other dog owners or just walkers.
she has a great recall when out apart from when other people are around(i put her on a lead and if people wasnt to say hello i let them but she must do so politely)
she will run up to them, and was jumping up but this has now stopped as i have trained her not to, so she just runs up to the rubbing against their legs or sitting in front of them and as most people see cute puppy they oblige and stroke her which obviously ruins any chance of recall i had!
I dont really feel right shouting please ignore the cute puppy!!!lol

She goes to puppy training once a week and she is similar there but no where near as bad as everyone ignores her.
and she is also at shows every weekend with me so meets lots and lots of people and dogs(on lead) and i teach her to say hello calmly(feet on the floor and sat down) but she is thinks everyone was put on this earth to fuss her.

any advice would be appreciated as with my gsds they werent fussed about meeting other people, only me! lol

ps. obviously im working hard on her rercall and when no people around and in training its 100%!

Hi,

She's obviously a very idependent pup and I think you ahve your work cut out for you.

Yiannis used to be like that and has only just now started to clam down a littel bit. I made him a high vis vest with the words "PLEASE DON'T TOUCH - I'M IN TRAINING" on it.

This way, absolutely nobody touched him unless I said it was OK - usually on the way back from somewhere if I thought he deserved some fuss from others. I still kept the vest on though so people would ask rather than take it off and for his presence to be a free for all 'cos he used to get over excited - somethign I didn't want on the way home!

Good luck.

Personally I would just keep doing what you are doing and not worry too much about it.

Most BC pups are very friendly, like yours, and with training, socialisation and as she grows and matures a bit, I am sure you will find she will still be friendly and sociable but manageable and under control.

Use a clicker & she should pick up the greet on foot paws quite quickly, a 6 month old JRT at our clicker club picked it up in 30 secs !

I am clicker training her and she doesnt really jump up anymore- though thats also something thats different- my gsds were food orientated where as ripley is toys toys toys!(which im pleased about actually as easy to motivate for agility)

Have you tried counterconditioning? When you precieve that someone is coming, or anything that might make her go crazy, say "Watch Me!" and take a route where the obstacle or person wont be as tempting to greet. You can pull off to the side while saying watch me and have her do some basic obedience commands such as sit and lay, keep her attention fixated on you though, thats the key.
