No obsession per se. I think a forum like this can yield excellent opinions, and I'm interested to hear them. Between the rescue and multiple vets, we've probably heard about 10 different breed possibilities. In practice, I think it would also be valuable to know so we can better plan for her growth (or lack thereof), behaviors, etc.

However, the hiking 10 miles without a break did jump out at me. Hip problems are common in many of the heavier breeds, and are not helped by the over-exercising of puppies. I would not want to be covering distances such as these with a 9 month old puppy. The usually quoted guide is 5 minutes for each month of the puppy's life. Garden type play is not counted.
Thanks for the advice. That was probably exaggerated a bit, as we've done just one hike of about 10 miles. Typically we're in the 3-6 mile range, and find that she is comfortable with that.

I attached a pic I could find that has her tail. It curls up sometimes when she is active. Flattens out when she's more relaxed. Doesn't usually hang downward too much.

What is she called.

I agree with Brenda, the first thing I saw was a Ridgeback.
Her name is Maple!
