New bed - any opinions/suggestions ?

I'm thinking of getting a new bed or at least a new mattress. I currently have a Silentnight Posturepedic which is killing my back! I've been thinking about a memory foam mattress - has anyone got one, if so, what are your opinions of them? What make etc?

Mine is only 2 years old and I've never had a good nights sleep on it, I think the firmness rating might be too firm - it's from Sleepmasters, firmness rating 8.

Thanks

I don't personally like memory foam as I move around a bit when I sleep and I hear that they take a while to get back to normal shape when you move, which can be uncomfortable. I've also hear that you can get very hot on them as they trap the heat.

I've got a Latex one, which is medium firm and it's wonderful. Before I got it, I was waking up with a cramp in my back every morning and it stopped immediately with the Latex. My mother recently got a Latex one too and she says she's not slept so well for years.

My neighbour has the memory foam which she says is very comfortable but it gets too hot especially in the summer time.

We have a double sprung mattress on the recommendation of hubby's osteopath. He told us the orthopaedic ones were usually too hard for anyone with a bad back.

I won't have a memory foam mattress topper due to the fact that they make you sweat buckets!

Hot flushes already cover that job quite nicely

I have a Slumberland Posturepedic bed and I think it's fab!

We have a sprung mattress which has a layer of memory foam on top. Its the most comfortable night's sleep I've had in years and my back has improved amazingly. The other advantage is you don't have to turn it over, just change it top to bottom occasionally.
Whatever you do make sure you take time to try them all out in the shop.

Thank you everyone.

Those with latex - are they purely foam or have they got springs as well?
