Importing a dog into the uk

if you have a pet passport - it is still necessary for quarantine??

if not - are there any ways around not having quarantine???

also - say from the USA - how much would it be to import a pup/dog?

You can buy a dog that has a current valid passport it will will not have to go into quarantine

The USA is part of the Pet Travel Scheme

However if you are buying a puppy it would not be able to come to the UK until it's pet passport is valid with is 6 calendar months from the date of the successful titre test for rabies & as puppies cannot have rabies vax before they are 12/13 weeks & the titre test has obviously have to be after this vax so puppies are around 10 months old

As to the cost it depends on the breed(as in size & weight)as dogs travel in the holds & the fee is governed by the weight of the dog & container

If you have a valid pet passport and 6 mths has elapsed since they had a positive blood test then no quarantine is necessary.
As the $ is weak against the £ at the moment it could actually be quite cheap to get a dog from the states as long as you can find someone to care for the pup for the PP.
Cooper cost me abour £2,500 as did Parker so you are looking at least that amount. That included the cost of the dog by the way! So you going for an Amertoy then :smt002

I don't think they are recognised by the AKC yet, although that may be wrong, but not as far as I'm aware there aren't any in the UK but could be wrong. People are importing all the time!
