I think there's a name for it. Seriously!!!!!!

You are right there is a name for it and one of the first type of treatments tried is to tell the person who is suffering to say out loud as they do the action ' yes I have locked the door' or 'yes I am turning off the gas/water/lights'

It seems the condition is caused by the mind moving from the action we wish to do as soon as we start to do it on to the next thing we are about to do, so that later (often only a few moments) we can't remember if we did it or not because we were thinking about something else at the time we did it. So saying out loud the action as it is performed makes sure our mind has full knowledge that the action has taken place and when we suddenly think did I do so and so, we are able to remember with conviction that we did in fact do it.

Its called OBSESSIVE COMPULSIVE DISORDER.
It can 'manifest' in all sorts of ways from keep checking plugs etc to constant hand washing.

Hey now, the things that members were talking of is not OCD it is, I have too many things to think about syndrome, so relax and try the method I have suggested. OCD is a horrid problem and needs the care and attention of a specialist, just forgetting if you did something is a symptom of our busy lives.
