Can't see where I have gone off topic though
SorryTrouble I was not really meaning you . Dawn went onto talking about a little girl which was not really part of this thread and that mixed up my replies somewhat.

I think the decision involves the whole family and the measures they are prepared to take, though socialisation and mental stimulation would appear to have been lacking in this instance and that should be addressed now .

No problem, I have started to speak in shorthand I think, I know what I mean but it sometimes comes out a bit on the brief side.
On topic - Bayler no critism intended by the way, sometimes you can just be too close to a problem to see exactly what is going on. Dogs need exercise and socialisation and your parents back yard could be huge, I have no idea, but dogs need to be out and about meeting other dogs from a very early age, It's how they learn how to behave around other dogs. I also do not agree with tethering dogs, it frustrates them.

Exactly Trouble Bayey no criticism intended at all, I should have made this quite clear in my previous replies when side tracked by Dawn and Trouble just (I hope)constructive comments based on the fact that some people are not always aware of a dogs requirements.
Romeo is really your dog and it must be so hard for you ...

Hi all.... I don't take any of this as personal criticism. I came to this forum to get some advice and thoughts from outsiders because, as Trouble said, I'm too close to the situation and have my feelings involved. So any and all thoughts are welcome and appreciated.

I do have an update though, my parents have decided to give Romeo another chance and try to move past this. My dad feels horrible for leaving the door open and inadvertantly causing Max's death, and can't bring himself to have Romeo pts for a reaction caused by his action. Also, Lexie, the 15 year old shephard, he feels, shouldn't lose another companion as with her rapidly deteriorating health, she won't be around much longer and shouldn't have any more trauma in her life.

So with new doors separating all rooms, the fenced in back yard, the run (which does tether him, yes, but is a long run and he's gotten used to it over the years.... plus his ability to run free when supervised), and our increased awareness of all things pit bull.... Romeo gets the benefit of the doubt.

Please dont hesitate if we can be of help in the future, as you can see there are very opposing - but therefore balanced - views offered here on so many topics which can be such a help to all sorts of situations whatever they may be :smt001

Be warned though - Dogsey can be rather addictive once people find their way around and start getting to know everyone so if you stick around, be prepared to let chores fall by the wayside somewhat
