Is 6 years old too old???

Hi I have a 6 yr old collie x staffy and she is very clever.
Do you think she's too old to go to training to extend her cleverness?

Kirsty

Absolutely not. I've had dogs before older than that who have proved to be very capable learners. In some respects, I think it's easier, as they often don't have the younger dog's over-excitement to cope with.

I should add that the ol' bones and muscles might not be as capable and as agile as they once were, but for moderate training I would say that the dog will do just fine.

Heck no, given the opportunity, dogs can learn new things at any age and they certainly learn things as an ongoing process throughout life anyway

I don't think they're ever to old. Boomer still enjoys going to classes and learning new things and he's 11 years old.

definitely not - I recently rescued an 11 year old dalmatian - not known for their obedience skills, and he has learnt new tricks as well as learning not to snap at other dogs and will now actually run around with other dogs without showing any signs of aggression. I was told not to bother as he's too old, but he's proved everyone wrong and I'm very proud of him.
