Poppy, 18 month old Staffie

Poppy, 18 month old Staffie

Her Story: Poppy was found on her owners front door step bleeding with a broken leg and bite wounds to her face and front legs. She's had a difficult past and been bred from before being 'dumped'. Together their vet repaired her damage and neutered her. She is living with 2 gentle dogs, but can't be trusted with dogs outside.

Salient Points: Beautiful, affectionate dog who has learnt to play. Housetrained, can be left and isn't destructive. Will need muzzling (or semi muzzle in a low dog density) until she has been re-educated to relax and trust dogs outside.

Advert: Poppy was dumped on her owners doorstep, bleeding with attack wounds all over her head and front legs and a badly broken back leg. This was 3 months ago, she is about 18 months old. She was taken in to their vets and together they shared the cost of putting her back together and spaying her at the same time. Unfortunately their business is dog care and although Poppy lives with their 2 other dogs well, she doesn't tolerate some dogs in their house very well and likewise can turn on dogs outside if challenged. Who will offer this sweetheart a home where she can love and offer her heart, but needs re-education outside initially via a muzzle until she proves her instincts with dogs and become less defensive based on her terrible beginning. Her owners attempts to rehome or find a rescue place were thwarted and they were considering that they would need to put her to sleep. She has so many wonderful qualities; she is young and though may never be 100% with other dogs, with confidence behind her lead and a reassuring tone can begin to achieve what she has achieved with her current live in dog companions. Its all about trust. Still living with her family, but needs to go soon.

Poppy is a poppet. She is loved and deserves to live her life protected from her sad beginnings. She is a joy to have around and in many ways can offer such worthy companionship with an owner whose lives aren't totally around dogs like their current owners. Poppy takes treats so gently from your hand. She used to wet herself when witnessing a raised voice or waved hands ... she is learning to trust, her gentle nature shines through.
