Pity about the owner

OK - I am older - probably about 30 years older than most of the people who have dogs doing agility.

My dog did well - I wasn't quite fast enough!

The people said "good dog".

Pity about the "handler"!

Maybe there has to be a class that takes into account the age of the handler!

I've always tried to take my dogs to CD or CDX - one even made UDX.

As long as you and your dog enjoy it that's all that matters.

Well, I have decided that I won't go down that path again.
It was fine while I was younger - I also had the energy and drive. I still have the drive, but my body no longer has the energy!
I have decided that I will teach my dog the lower impact (on my body!), path of general tricks.

Doesn't mean, of course, that I won't give her the opportunity to go over all the hurdles/tunnels/inspections etc etc of the agility training, just means that I won't too.

We are a team - as a team, we do what the weakest member can do - unfortunately now, I am the weakest member.

ARRGH!! an aging body - but not an aging mind!!!

cc22peatree - Hi!

I'm in my "advanced" 60's

I would dearly love to take my dog to the advanced levels, but I can't!

I feel I have let her down.

But we , as a team, have progressed in the "trick" level, that I don't feel too bad.

We do stuff that only the dogs on TV do - and we have gone further than that,

We do stuff only me and my dog do!

I am happy.

I'm only 18 and can't keep up with my dog due to a disability. My trainers are working with me so that once Takara's good enough, she can learn the commands from a distance without me having to chase around.

I'm pathetic at agility it's just as well T's good at it and watches the other dogs first so that if I call out the wrong direction she tends to question it as if to say 'why? that dog went that way!'

I'm assuming you don't actually jump all the hurdles with her? Couldn't you ask your trainer to set up a course where you didn't have to run as far as she does? My trainers always tell me to run the shortest way around because 'four legs are always faster than 2!'
