Samoyed Bathtime

There are two questions I always get asked on a walk... "How do you keep her so claen?" and "Is she really a tiny dog under all that hair?" So to clear things up and because this is such a rare event (it's best not to bath her too often, it takes ages to dry) Here is Selkie in the bath!

As you can see she's less than happy.. But then don't feel too sorry for her... If she didn't want the bath that much, she shouldn't have wallowed in the slurry!

The answer is ... I bath her

and yes she's a much smaller dog under all that fur!
Skinny too! It's all worth it in the end though... Oh and as I cant brush her while she's wet and she wont let me blow dry her, we'll have to wait until tomorrow for her to be dry enough to groom!

She hates the bath... If you look you'll see I tie her lead to the hand rail at the back of the bath, only way to keep her in! She doesn't go mad, just jumps out and sits wedged against the door! She hates me now and is ignoring me. leaves the room if I go in wont look at me...

She'll be over it by tomorrow... Then will hate me for the grooming... But at her age, none of the groomers round here will take her... The last pace that would groom her said that their neighbours asked them to stop as she screams the place down! She's very 'chatty' when you groom her... If I charge the battery on my camera I'll try to get some film tomorrow! You'd think she was being tortured!

Aww she looks like a seal in the 3rd pic. I love Samoyeds but you have confirmed that they are not the dog for me

I know that 'why are you torturing me mum' look. Last time Cassie was bathed OH did it so I wasn't the bad guy and she still ignored me because I carried her to the bathroom

She had her revenge... went and jumped straight on my bed and rolled around. Now I have to change the bed Dogs!

Samoyeds are not for everyone and not for the feint of heart! You need a strong mental attitude and a hard heart some days. She has to be groomed.. It used to be every day, but as she's got older we have changed to every week and sometimes every fortnight to ease her stress... She was never keen, but as she has got older, she has lost her 'reserve' she just tells you exactly what she thinks of this state of affairs from beginning to end!
