Kicking dogs

We have a lovely little dog walking community where we go and everyone knows everyone and all the dogs get on. It isn't everyone who can say that out of about 30 different dogs they all get on is it!

We never have any problems and the dogs all sort themselves out with who they like to play with the most etc and there are never any problems.

Recently there has been a guy with his puppy walking through and his puppy (about 10 months old) always seems to get cross with one dog or the other. It's only recently that the pup has been let off his leash and we all think he needs to be let off more often to get socialised. Anyway, this pup got involved in a bit of a scrap with a little terrier the other week and the owner of the pup kicked the terrier! My husband saw it all and was far from amused and told the guy so too that he was out of order for kicking the terrier. Anyway, the guy has been out again today and we have all tried to get him to tag along with us even just for his pups sake. The owner is a very nervous guy and we wonder if his anxiety is passed onto the dog!

Tonight, my Loui for some reason got involved in a little bit of a noisey "to do" with the pup and once again I saw the guys foot rise up off the floor ready to kick my dog Firstly this is the first time I have ever heard Loui get cross with any dog and secondly....well, you can imagine how cross I was! I made my feelings very clear to the guy and off he went.....

I am just so cross and also concerned...thanks for listening. I am just a little upset by it all to be honest!

Have to say that if a dog attacked mine and the owners were not reacting quickly enough I might well "kick" the dog off .... I don't mean rib breaking fling it across the field kick but to protect my dog I would perhaps react similarly .... it is every owner's responsibility to watch out for their own dog ....

I am not a dog attacker and have never hurt a dog BUT I see it as my responsibility to protect my dogs and if someone else allows their dog to go for mine if I am the closest I will remove an aggressive dog in the quickest and safest way ....

If any of my dogs were being attacked by another dog, then I would take measures to protect them, but kicking wouldn't be one of them. It's all too easy for the other dog to turn round and take a bite, and I like my legs just as they are

I have had a person try and kick one of my dogs when she went over to her dog. She didn't like GSDs and tried to administer something that I've only ever seen on a rugby field

As I'm probably the most tactless person you'll meet, I made my feelings perfectly clear to what I'd do to her if she didn't remove herself from my sight

Hmmm.....on speaking to some owners who were there last night it would seem that Loui was NOT growling at this other pup but just trying to have some fun and was playing. As I have already stated this owner is very sensitive about his dog and everyone seems to think he fueled the situation by pulling his dog away when 2 other dogs went over to play and my dog got the blame!
We were running towards them all as this was happening and loui was in the middle of it all not able to go anywhere.

I feel the same as Muddiwarx I am afraid. Although I don't think I would be quick to jump in, I would let the dogs sort it out themselves initially, but if that wasn't working then I would take steps to remove the aggressor from my dog.
