BSL- HELP your breed!!!!

we all know about it but we HAVE to keep helping and not ignore this!!!!

BSL in Canada Urgent

Friends
The Canadian situation is now at a critical point with public hearings and submissions due immediately!

Public Hearings on BILL 132
Monday, January 24, 2005 - Transcripts of the public hearings in Ontario on Monday
Thursday, January 27, 2005 - Agenda
Wednesday, February 2, 2005
Thursday, February 3, 2005

Most Clubs have been circulated but we need as many individuals as possible to put in protests against the
proposed BSL in Ontario! Most know the sort of things to say but should consider the following
*1 The Staffordshire Bull Terrier is the finest of family dogs and is especially good with children.
*2 The SBT is not a dangerous dog, nor a pit bull type under the UK Dangerous Dogs Act.
*3 BREED SPECIFIC LEGISLATION DOES NOT WORK. This is based on worldwide experience and many places have repealed BSL laws.
*4 PUNISH THE DEED AND NOT THE BREED.
Dog related incidents are often the result of irresponsible or criminal ownership -punish the owner and not the innocent dog.
Do politicians want to see innocent responsible owners punished?
*5 There are no reliable statistics that one breed is more likely to bite or attack than any other.
Such studies are usually flawed on several scientific points.
Close inspection of such 'studies' often show that the ratio of pure bred dogs to crossbreeds reflects the proportion in the general community.
*6 The Canadian KC registration system is recognised by the Federal Government under the Pedigree Animal Act
yet Provincial Governments are not obliged to recognise this. The very least we must call for is that
ALL DOGS REGISTERED WITH THE CKC AND AKC SHOULD BE EXEMPT FROM ANY BSL LAWS.
These are a few points to consider but do you own thing and let your feelings be known. Please send
e-mails to
Bob Delaney the Chairman of the Committee bdelaney.mpp@liberal.ola.org
Douglas Arnott 'douglas_arnott@ontla.ola.org' - he is
clerk to the legislature. (I am not a computer
whizz-kid but for others like me the underlining of
the space in his names seems to be essential)
Her Excellency, the Governor General at info@gg.ca

And CC's to
Lee Steeves 'lee@regalridge.ca' - she is co-ordinating on behalf of CKC
Clive Wilkinson 'cwilkinson@sympatico.ca' - Clive is president of SBTCChttp://www.staffordcanada.com/.
Paul Martin, Federal Prime Minister 'pm@pm.gc.ca'- a lot of e-mails to him might bring home the damage that could be done to
Canada's good name I suggest the CC's to ensure there is a double check in case anything does not get to Arnott and Lee and
Clive need to know what the response is.. ( You may like to point to this link Staffords @ Home a photo album showing what Staffords do best, Jo)
Please cross-post this to as many SBT owners andsympathisers, and owners of other breeds who might help.
Please make sure your clubs know about this and encourage them to act. Similarly contact your national KC and any bodies like
welfare or veterinary organisations that might protest. And maybe the Canadian Ambassador to your own country.
PLEASE ACT IMMEDIATELY YOUR BREED NEEDS YOU!
Best Wishes and Thanks for your help.

Australia has had the iniquitous BSL for a while now.

All breeders, owners, organisations, need to stand together. Even if it does not directly affect your breed at the moment, who knows which breed will be targeted next.

You don`t get bad dogs you get bad owners

The owners who allow/train their dogs to be aggressive are responsible for the incidents that happen.

yvonne

Where are they getting the support that enabled them to put this motion forward for legistation?
