Been to the vets

I've been concerned about Gel for a while now, I took her to the vets at the beginning of January as she was not good on her legs. They thought maybe the start of arthritis and gave metacam for her.
She did seem a bit better for a while, but the last few days she has not wanted to go for a walk and has been a bit staggerpus.
This morning I spent ages just watching her move. She didn't seem to know where her back legs especially the left one were going. Me and Fay (my daughter) did a neuro test on her putting paper under her paws and then gently pulling it sideways to see if she knew to put them back. She did but was very slow correcting the back ones.
I rang the vet and got an appointment for 3.
Fay meanwhile broke off her uni work and started researching Gel's symptoms in her neurology books....luckily she has done lots of that lately. She decided that it sounded like pressure on the spine.
The vet agrees......it's wobblers!(I don't know much about this and don't want to google it and only hear the horrendous cases!!)
We are now waitin for a call from a place in Chester where Gel will have an MRI scan and will be operated on if they think it appropriate.
The vets says we have caught her early and that usually dobes get it younger than Gel's 9 years. Sometimes they are in great pain and cry with it, but Gel doesn't seem to be in pain, believe me I have been watching her like a hawk for that. He's given her a cortisone injection for now.
Unfortunately this specialist place in Chester doesn't claim direct from the insurance like our vets do, so that means we pay up front and get it back. He says the MRI will be about £1000 and the op about £3000! I hope the plastic will stand it!!
Healing vibes for Gelert over here please.

Wishing your dear Gel all the very best, let's hope it's not such a serious problem as they might think after that scan hey? Sending all we've got for a good diagnosis which can be treated easily for her.xxx
