Thanks for your suggestion DM, I do use Lavender oil in a oil burner to relax me at times and I do use music too, I find that it quite often helps to relax me.

It does work, I get nice and calm and chilled then out of the blue I'll get such a jolt and my leg will jump off the bed! and I have to start all over again.

But I will look into the pain management side of things though.

Thanks again.

Ian

Sorry to hear you are in pain! I believe the 'alternative' therapies can be very effective. Meditation, aromatherapy and accupuncture, or accupressure have all had very good results!

Hi Ian

I don't suppose it's related to restless legs syndrome? I know there are drugs out there for that condition.

Hi Lucky Star,

I also used to suffer from that too, however this jumping is caused by the severed nerves, most people get them after an amputation, sometimes they never go away it just depends on the mind etc.

I too suffer from Restless leg Syndrome.I often jerk myself and my husband awake.
I was tols that mine was due to prolonges use of steroids via my asthmas pumps. This apparently can damage your nerve ends and this is what contributes to RLS.
Have you taken long term steroids at any point ?

Hi,

No I 've never taken any steriods for a long period, I think It has been passed on by my mum, she used to suffer from it too. I think that my case is quite mild really compared to some cases I have heard off.

Hoggett - I think I understand. How about cognitive behavioural therapy?

Hiya boi - was this just from normal asthma inhalers?

It's a technique that has been used to help with psychological and behavioural disorders and can help change the way the mind deals with something. It's been found really useful in things like:

Depression, shyness, social anxiety, panic attacks, phobias, obsessions, compulsions, worry, post-traumatic stress, eating disorders, sleep disorders (tingling limbs), relationship problems - things that are in some way related to the mind which can sometimes give physical symptoms - like anxiety which can result in palpitations.

It helps weaken the connection between troublesome situations and how we react to them. People practice calming the mind and body. It shows how certain thinking patterns can cause symptoms.

I don't know if this would help you but if you think it is a mind problem, there might be some value in it?

Hope it's okay to put up some web links?

Fibromyalgia can also cause muscle pain and fatigue (similar to CFS?ME) and CBT has been shown to help with this too:

And for dealing with chronic pain

http://www.apa.org/divisions/div12/r.../cbt_pain.html

A friend of mine did it for a kind of social anxiety - he has a PhD and is well-used to mixing and giving presentations, but all of a sudden he found himself unable to do so, or even travel on a train.

If you think this might help you, visit some websites and have a chat with your GP.

Hope you find something useful here.

Hello Lucky Star,

Thank you very much for the links, As it is I do use a type of CBT to control the pain, as soon as I feel it starting I do relax - as much and when I can. but by the time it comes then goes there isn't time to react, if you know what I mean. An example of what happens is a bit like if you stab yourself with something, you get a sharp pain then gone, but this is a far greater jab.

Sorry I might not have explained it too well but I think you will get the meaning of what I have said.

Ian
