What could cause my horrible fingers.

For the last week or so my finger tips have been peeling, well it started with all of my finger tips swelling up to over twice thier normal size, when I woke up the next day the swelling had gone down, but was replaced with all the skin on my finger tips peeling, this started getting worse, until one night my fingers felt like they were on fire, I couldn't type, or even turn a page of a magazine without them being painful, now the peeling has just gone, but on my finger tips where it all happened it looks like they have been burnt, and all of the finger print in them areas have dissapeard, theres another girl at work who is going through the same thing, but as far as I know nothing has changed, and I've never had this before, does anyone have any clue as to what it is??

How strange - maybe an allergy to a cleaning substance or a paper coating or something? Hope you get to the bottom of it - sounds nasty.

I saw something like that/or read about it...can not remember now what it was, but the person had to go to the Doctors who gave them something for it and it cleared up.

God I wish I could remember the name....sorry no help , but I remember thinking at the time....well I wouldn't of thought that, being thick I'd of probally left it.

if you go let us know please xx

Ooh it would be good if you could, I went to the Docs with a very similar complaint when I was 13 (17 years ago! ) with very little joy. He said it was a reaction to a chemical of some sort, he suggested a weedkiller. Plausible if my Sister didn't suffer from the exact same condition at the same age (I'm 10 years younger).

Mine started with tiny blisters on my finger tips and palms, these eventually burst. It felt like my hands were on fire and I could quite easily scratch my own skin off if left to my own devices. The skin would then peel away leaving me with no finger prints for a good couple of weeks (if only I didn't have such guilty conscience, I could've gotten away with murder! ). The skin would eventually grow back and you'd be none the wiser that there was anything wrong with my hands.

It was terrible when I was in my teens, more so in the hot weather (possibly something to do with the sweat glands?). I eventually went back to the Docs several years later when it got so bad I couldn't hold a pen to write. He gave me a very strong steroid cream which eventually got rid of it temporarily. Thankfully the older I've got the less intense it has been to the point where now all I get in the hottest weather is a few tiny blisters on my thumbs?

Strangely my Sister got them more on her feet than her hands (the sweat gland nerves to her hands were severed when she was a teenager, which is another reason I think sweat glands could be involved) and it eventually cured itself when she had children! Not something I'd recommend trying mind you!

First port of call would be going to see the doctor. It sounds like an allergic reaction or a dermatitis or psoriasis, either way doctors will be able to give you something to help.
