Savannah (Malamute) is totally out of coat should we show or not show...?

OK just wondered on the seasoned dog show peoples thoughts, our Savannah (Malamute) is totally out of coat, and the Manchester show is next Saturday, if she has NOT come into season, should I or should I NOT show her? she looks really neat and tidy out of coat, and you can see all her muscles, she has a good tuck up and moves really well, construction wise she is good, do you think the judge will take into consideration that at this time of year they do lose their coats, or expect me to only show a dog in full coat? I have seen in the past dogs being shown out of coat and getting placed, but to be honest I am in two minds. personally I would be looking at the construction and movement, but would have to consider that the dog is out of coat, and if there are better dogs in full coat it would be them that got placed, awww dont know what to do so come on opinions needed lol.

Well, if she`s out of coat chances are others will be out of coat too & yep I do think judges take this into consideration

If you don`t go you`ve got no chance of being placed, if you do go at least you`ll be in with half a chance & maybe there`ll be no better *in coat* dog there & you could end up kicking yourself later when you find out the dogs who were shown & placed

I`d take her

Think I feel if it is a good dog and is still in the lower classes it is a shame to bring it out looking below par, dogs without coat can look a different shape to when they have coat and it does happen that people remember them when they looks less than their best rather than when they look beautiful. However if you know the dog will always be a ‘nearly there’ dog I don't think it will do much harm. Both you and I have a breed that looks so different without coat, remember an exhibit you had at Newark that looked like a large Siberian rather than a Mal, ok at a open show but not IMO at a Championship show because the impression does stick.

As you know I am in the same quandary and have to also consider if my handler, who still handles her own dogs, would wish to be seen in the ring with a dog that looks as if he has been starved. Still not made my mind up.

To be serious again for a moment think a lot depends on how bigger part in 'breed type' the coat plays, in Mo and my breeds it makes a lot of difference and although the judge may make allowances those around the ring may not and at a championship show those around the ring are likely to be fellow breeders and judges. That is why both of us are agonising about whether to go at all and if we do which of those we have entered we can risk taking. Know last year at Manchester I decided to take a naked one and he looked a totally different breed to the rest so I will not do it again

Understand that J also as well you have a lot more ch/shows than we have also specialist judges as well & we don`t have an option cos maybe that judge won`t be oput here again for goodness knows how long. Like you say caot type as well........

Sometimes I forget where I am

Just to add my point of view....I think it also depends on the breed. In our breed is is quite common to see out of coat dogs in the ring.In others I know it is not such a 'done thing'.
I pay my entry for a day out....in coat or out the dogs go.....I have taken dogs to shows and thought they looked a out of coat but tidy and they have done ok.
